2015 Lexus RC F Coupe Video, First Look

Lexus is making a bold statement with its new RC F coupe. This car has the design and performance credentials to compete with some of the segment’s most respected nameplates.

It’s powered by a 5.0-liter V8 that will put out “more than 450 HP” and at least 383 LB-FT of torque. This is enough to make it the most muscular eight-cylinder Lexus performance car in history.

Power is sent to the RC F’s rear wheels; it’s routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the new BMW M4 a manual gearbox is not offered, which makes us sad enough to ask our doctors for a Prozac prescription.

Lexus says this car will drive like a proper sports machine and an available Torque Vectoring Differential should help make good on that promise. It can shuffle power distribution from one rear wheel to the other to help the car rotate through corners. Additionally, it’s got three driver-selectable modes: standard, slalom and track. But more important than this is mass. Engineers have targeted a curb weight of less than 4,000 pounds.

The RC F’s body certainly plays the part of high-power sports car, but what about its interior? Well, the cabin looks pretty much like what you get in a new IS sedan, and that’s not a bad thing. The design is a little busy, but the quality is obvious and the controls work well.

Altogether this is one car we can’t wait to see in the real world and take for an extended test drive.
